A Mother called Judith

By Jojette Asumbrado Ramos

The simple smile yet enigmatic
Grinning mischievously, what could you be thinking?
Vibrant and alluring, I understood why my dear father’s attention was caught
My memory of my mother when I was a child

New dresses of vast colors, of different styles and forms
Heels, with swaying hips that goes with it
Curly and cascading hair, oh wait, just like mine
The vision I had of my mother in my pre-teen years

Changing office uniforms every a year or two
Black shoes and all that, include too, stockings for smooth legs effect
Bags of all sorts
My mother to my eyes in my teen-age years

Suits, lots of travels
Sporadic long meetings
Reports, speeches, dinners and lots of managers wanting her opinion or her presence to their region
My mother as a General Manager of M. Lhuillier Jewelry Stores

Even at home, she still manages as much as she can
She maybe tired and beaten, but she still strive as much as she could muster
Being a strong person, could be a cursed or a gift
I wanted to believed that it is a gift

As a mother myself
I could feel some sacrifices each of us had took and will be taking
Belonging from lineage of strong women
We know, we will always be standing in the midst of trivialities

Happy Mother’s Day, mommy Judith
Life may toss and turn
But never forget that Avkez, Tisoy and me will support you in however we could muster
It may not be as you wanted but it will be to our best efforts
